DIY Kids Summer Baskets

Posted on June 26, 2020October 8, 2023

Like Olaf said “Just imagine how much cooler I’ll be in Summer”. It’s the first day of Summer and I wanted to surprise the girls with some fun Kids Summer Baskets… just call me The Cool Mom.

Some of the links below are affiliate links, meaning at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

Here is my trick for giving random gifts like this. I sneak in items they need! My girls desperately needed a pair of flip flops for the pool, crayons and a new water bottle. So I included items like those that I was already going to buy for them to fill the basket. Somehow when you display things like a fun gift, they are much more excited about not-so-fun things like a new water bottle than if I had just bought it at the store and given it to them.

What I included in their fun Summer Baskets.

Basket Filler Ideas:

  • Bubble Wand
  • Creative Coloring
  • Eraseable Colored Pencils
  • Twistable Crayons
  • Flip Flops
  • Side Walk Chalk
  • Non-Toxic Nail Polish
  • Kids Face Mask
  • Water Bottle
  • BlaBla Doll

Most of the items were things we desperately needed to replenish. We were completely out of side walk chalk and colors. I bought 1 large box of side walk chalk and separated it by putting chalk in 2 small clear bags (1 for each girl). Tied a cute ribbon around it for some WHIM to make it feel more “gifty”.

I also bought them some erasable colored pencils and twistable crayons for their coloring and picture making. We LOVE the Crayola Twistable Crayons. You don’t have to deal with small pieces of broken crayons and they are easier for little hands to color with.

I found $7 flip flops and water bottles for $1 at Walmart that were perfect for those Summer pool days. And of course had to add in a bubble wand. My kids go crazy for bubbles.

Lastly, they got new bla bla dolls. These are our favorite knit dolls. Not only are they adorable but they are soft and so well made. We have about 1,000 of them.

This was a fun way to celebrate the beginning of Summer with the kids. You can take this idea and tweak it so many ways. Its a great Summer Birthday Gift or you could make it completely pool themed and add in floaties, sunglasses and sunscreen. The possibilities are endless.

This is such a fun idea! We just found out that our neighborhood pool is officially closed for the rest of the summer! I will be sharing with my neighborhood mom friends as so many kids could use a morale booster right now!

I love the idea of a summer gift basket, especially since in London summer is still officially closed. My little one would love such a great basket, he loves colouring and drawing with chalk, not to mention bubbles. Excellent idea!
