Sourdough Discard Waffle Recipe | Quick & Easy, No Overnight Resting or Fancy Ingredients

Posted on March 27, 2022March 27, 2022

I made a pledge on Instagram after we made this Sourdough Discard Waffle Recipe. “I Amanda, will never make buisquick or frozen waffles again. Ever.” Once you make these delicious crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside waffles you will NEVER go back! Most sourdough starter discard waffle recipes I found called for resting the dough in the fridge overnight or fancy ingredients like buttermilk. This Mom of 3 doesn’t have time for that. I wanted a recipe that I could whip up on Sunday morning for the family. THIS IS THAT RECIPE!

I have never seen my children devour an entire plate of waffles before. This recipe will blow your mind, and it is so easy! This recipe uses Sourdough Starter Discard. That means instead of discarding half of your sourdough discard in the trash to feed it, you make something with it instead. If you don’t yet have a Sourdough Starter CLICK HERE for a beginners guide.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sourdough starter discard
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 Tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 Tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Topping Ideas: Maple Syrup, Butter, Whipped Cream, Jam, Berries

How to make

Turn you waffle iron on first so it is warmed up and ready to use. We love our Mini Dash Waffle Maker.

In a large bowl, melt butter. Add in your sourdough discard, milk, sugar and eggs. Mix well. Add in your flour, baking powder and salt and mix until batter in smooth. (If your batter seems too thick, add a little more milk)

Spoon batter into your waffle maker. Cook until waffle is golden on the outside.

This recipe made 12 small sized waffles.

How to Store and Reheat Extras

Let your waffles come to room temperature, then store them in an airtight container in the fridge. They will keep in the fridge for 3-4 days. When you are ready to reheat your waffles, you can pop them in the toaster.
