A Darling Secret Garden Themed Birthday Party for Kids

Posted on November 2, 2019May 6, 2025

Throwing parties for my kids is one of my favorite things to do, and with 3 kids, we go through a lot of themes. My second daughter has a Summer Birthday so we have a lot of fun picking themes for outdoor fun. She decided on a Garden Themed Birthday Party this year and it turned out SO cute!

If you love this Party Idea make sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for a list of my favorite items and other fantastic party theme ideas!

The Secret Path

At the front of the house when guests arrived we had a large chalkboard sign that read “This Way to Tessa’s Garden Party. Come Around Back”. We made a pathway to the “Secret Garden” around the side of the house using flower spinners found at the dollar store and potted Sunflowers. Guests made their way to the backyard where we decorated the kids little play house and had all the activities set up. All the kids really got a kick out of walking through the secret passage way to the party. It was a really fun way to welcome them over.

Food Spread for a Garden Party

Then there was the magnificent food table. We used a green table cloth and fake grass squares like the ones HERE to help display the food. Our centerpiece was a ceramic vase that looked like Rain Boots filled with sprigs and colorful butterfly nets. We served Fruit Bowls, Pasta Salad, Tea Sandwiches, and Chips. I made some garden themed appetizers like these cute ladybug crackers. They were so YUM and the kids loved them. You can get the recipe and directions on how I made these cute Ladybug Appetizers for Kids HERE.

Garden Party Activities

For activities the kids planted vegetables in our raised garden beds. They also made wind chimes and birdhouses that they could bring home for their own gardens.

Garden Party Favors

Party favors were displayed in a kids wheelbarrow . I took plastic bug catchers and nets found at the Dollar Store and decorated them with large butterfly stickers. Inside I filled them with cute bug shaped cookies found HERE.

Her Garden Themed Birthday Party had to have a coordinating cake. I bought a plain cake from the grocery store and decorated it myself with edible butterflies. The kids LOVED that they each got a butterfly with their piece of cake. They thought it was so cool that they could eat them too. We also had Butterfly shaped sugar cookies and Bumble Bee Sugar Cookies that were so yummy.
