How to Paint a Scallop Accent Wall

Posted on November 8, 2021November 7, 2021

Alice in Wonderland Bedroom Makeover

Before the Holidays we always like to do a large home purge. Going through, organizing, donating and minimizing what we have. While we tackled the basement we came across an old vintage dresser that used to be mine when I was a kid. It was hand painted by my Grandmother and we had held onto it in hope that we could use it for the girls. Frankly, I had forgotten all about it. I sat and starred at it trying to figure out if we should keep it or get rid of it. After a lot of careful thought, we decided if we were ever to use it now would be the time. The girls are at the perfect age where they can really enjoy it. So we carried it up to their room.

When we set it up we quickly realized that the arch I had painted on the wall behind it was no longer going to work. With the way the dresser sat along the wall it was off centered. So I decided to use this opportunity to give the girls room a little refresh!

I loved their accent wall, so I decided to change the arch to a scallop color block. Here is how I made a DIY Scallop Accent Wall.

What you need to make a Scallop Accent Wall

  • Painters Tape
  • Cereal Bowl
  • Pencil
  • Small angles brush or a small paint brush

To start I took my painters tape and marked the wall horizontally where I wanted the scallop to start. Use a level to make sure you have a straight, level line.

Then I took a cereal bowl and marked halfway on the bottom with painters tap. I used the painters tape to match up against the tape on the wall. That way I knew I would have even scallops. I held the bowl up to the wall (matching up the painters tape) and used my pencil to draw the top half of the bowl. I went all along the wall.

Now it was time to paint! I used a small paint brush and carefully painted the scallops. I then filled in the space below.

So easy and made such a big difference on their wall.

I decided to run with the Alice in Wonderland theme and made a little gallery wall with some fun, retro style prints. I placed a stack of classic story books and a yellow clock.

Their new accent wall turned out so cute, and I love that they can cherish this special dresser!
