Adorable black and white farm themed birthday party for a 2nd birthday.

A farm themed birthday party was inspired by Duncan’s love…no…obsession with tractors and cars. We decided to take his infatuation with tractors and turn his 2nd birthday into the ultimate Farm Party. Here are all the cute details of his special day. Make sure to check out below the printable coloring pages I made as part of the kids favors and links to all my favorite items to make this Farm Birthday come to life.

Farm Themed Birthday Party Decoration

One of my favorite parts of planning a party is going on the hunt for all the cute decor. Even though the party was for a 2nd birthday, I didn’t want it to come off “babyish” I found some cute Barn shaped plates, and everything came together from there. A black and white buffalo check tablecloths was used to set a more modern foundation. A cute red tractor vase sat on the table filled with Mums, the barn plates and some cow print napkins. There were 2 small wooden crates that I stacked to hold food and my go-to fake grass squares. Y’all, I have used these fake grass squares for so many party themes, they instantly add such a fun pop of color and texture to the table. I also set up my trusty letterboard with the saying “Party ’til the cows come home”.

I made balloon garlands with black, white, red, and cow print balloons that I bought in a kit. On the kitchen island we displayed his cake, a large farm themed, black and white box that I had, and the most adorable cookies.

Farm Activities

Farmers Market for Kids

To go with the Farm theme I decided to decorate the kids playhouse and turn it into a Farmers Market. You can check out my blog post on how I turned the kids outdoor playhouse into a Modern Farmhouse HERE. I decorated the playhouse with a cute sign on the front reading “Locally Grown”. On the large window sill I placed a few small baskets with fake farm food so the littler kids could pretend play.

On the other side of the playhouse, I displayed my handmade sign that cost me $0 to make. All I did was take some scrap wood, a sharpie and a stencil and I drew the words “The Barn”, “The Coop”, “Pumpkin Patch” and “Hayfield”. I love how this free little sign turned out so much that I am going to keep it and put it in the yard every fall with our scarecrow.

Lastly, I pulled the kids red wagon next to the sign and put some Mums and mini pumpkins in it so it looked like a little pumpkin patch.

This little outdoor area turned out so darling. Perfect for decorating for fall and the kids loved playing in the pumpkin patch and farmers market.

Giant Coloring Sheets

I also rolled out a giant farm themed coloring page on the kids picnic table. This was great for the younger kids and kept them totally entertained for a long time. I love this “On the Farm” coloring page for this Birthday Theme! If you have a little boy that loves tractors, the Tractor themed coloring sheet might be more up his alley too!

Animal Petting Zoo

But the big surprise for everyone was the petting zoo we had in the backyard. This was a last minute decision I made and luckily the company we used was able to make it work. It was the best decision ever. We had goats, sheep, a lama, mini ponies a donkey and a bunny. The kids…and the parents went crazy over the big surprise. The kids loved petting all the cute farm animals and getting pony rides around the back yard. It was such a fun and memorable activity that kept all the kids entertained.

Party Food and The Birthday Cake for a Farm Themed Birthday Party

The reason we all go to a party…the food! We had to do something that went with the theme, so we decided to go with comfort food. We served fried chicken, buiscuits, potato salad, pigs in a blanket and salad. I also made a huge board of fresh vegetables like sugar snap peas, carrots, broccoli, celery, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes with dips.

I found THE CUTEST cartons of water that we used. The bold black and white cartons went great with the rest of the decor. Everyone got a kick out of those little waters and the best part is they are echo friendly! We also had cokes, Mountain Time beers and Hard Seltzers for the adults.

Now for the treats. I found the cutest farm animal and tractor cookies. She was so sweet to work with and the cookies turned out ADORABLE and delicious. She had so many cute designs to choose from. Decorative cookies like these make great party favors or just displayed on the food table.

If you’ve seen some of my other Birthday Party posts you know my little trick to save money for the birthday cake. I bought a ridiculously fancy and expensive birthday cake 1 time and then never again. My trick is to get a simple grocery store cake and decorate it myself. I used a tractor candle and a windmill ornament to decorate the top of Duncan’s cake. Isn’t it the cutest! Super simple and way more affordable than an elaborate bakery cake.

Farm Themed Party Favors

I found some really cute barn drawstring bags that were really inexpensive. In the bags were little squeaky pigs, cow print bracelets and one of the cute farm animal and tractor cookies. I found some really fun farm animal shaped crayons that I included as well. But something was missing. I decided to make my own Farm themed coloring pages to go with the crayons and I LOVE how they turned out. I printed off the coloring pages, rolled them up and tied with a red and white ribbon. You can get the Farm Coloring Pages HERE . I really liked this idea because it was inexpensive to print off the pages and it was a fun activity that the kids could take home and do.

My Final Thoughts

I am so happy with how the party turned out. It was such a fun theme to do for a birthday. It’s such a good feeling to get together with friends and loved ones and catch up over good food, drinks and farm animals. Out of all the fun moments of the party though, I think this picture I snapped of Everly watching Duncan blow out his candle was the highlight for me. The joy on her face is the perfect expression of love we all have for this little boy. God has truly blessed our family.
